Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday said he will consider the proposal to become the leader of the opposition party (LoP) and take a decision soon.
Addressing a press conference, party general secretary K C Venugopal said that in the meeting held today, the Congress Working Committee unanimously requested Gandhi to take over as the Leader of Opposition in the 18th Lok Sabha.
The CWC passed a resolution praising the role of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the Lok Sabha election campaign.
“Rahul Gandhi’s campaign was single-minded, sharp and precise, and more than any other person, it was him who made defence of the Constitution of our Republic a central issue in the 2024 elections,” the resolution said.
It cited Bharat Jodo Yatra and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra as reasons for targeting Rahul Gandhi. “These two visits, reflecting his thinking and personality, were waterturning points in the politics of our country and have instilled hope and confidence among millions of our workers and crores of our voters,” the statement said.
The resolution also highlighted that the ‘Panchnyas-Pachi Guarantee’ programme was also the result of Rahul’s travels during which he heard the fears, anxieties and aspirations of all people, especially youth, women, farmers, labourers, Dalits, tribals, OBCs and minorities.
Speaking about the CWC meeting, Venugopal said that
The atmosphere at the party was exactly the opposite of what it was four months ago. He also said that the revival of the Congress has begun, adding that party leaders and workers were charged.
