‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has become the biggest Indian box office success of 2024 with a gross of over Rs 625 crore domestically. The film recently completed its fourth weekend, adding Rs 17.4 crore to its impressive performance. Hindi version alone has grossed Rs 275.9 crore, surpassing the third-highest-grossing South Indian film ‘RRR’ in the Hindi market, and is on its way to reach the Rs 300 crore milestone.
This week, “Kalki 2898 AD” will be competing with Marvel’s blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine”, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in lead roles. It is expected to be one of the biggest openings for a Hollywood film in the Hollywood film India, thanks to its considerable pre-release buzz.
While ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ may overtake ‘Jawan’ in India with its current total of Rs 1100 crore, it still lags behind ‘Jawan’ at Rs 1160 crore global gross. The arrival of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ could shift the global focus at the box office, which could present a challenge for ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ to maintain its momentum.
Produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and featuring an ensemble cast including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is celebrated for its high production value with a budget of Rs 600 crore, making it the most expensive Indian film ever made. The film benefits from the musical talent of Santhosh Narayanan, the cinematography of Serbian Jordje Stoziljkovic, and the editing skills of Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao.
Looking ahead, Prabhas will star in Telugu mythological fantasy ‘Kannappa’, which is directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and produced by Mohan Babu. The film, which also stars Vishnu Manchu, Mohanlal, Akshay Kumar (in his Telugu debut), and Kajal Aggarwal, is based on the legend of Kannappa, an ardent devotee of the Hindu god Shiva.
